What a Great Trip it was to Bennett Springs/Niangua River. Bennett Springs was running nice and clear. Caught and Released a lot of Rainbow Trout. The park is very well stocked with Trout. I was able to Catch and Release a 21” Rainbow to get my Bennett Springs Patch for Catch and Release. I did see a Brown Trout around 24” and a Big Rainbow Trout around 26”, but they were spooked enough that they didn’t want anything to do with me.
The Niangua River is a very special place for me. Not only is there Trout and Panfish but there are Small Mouth Bass in there. Small Mouth Bass grow very slow and are a Native Fish that needs to be protected. I did catch and release one about 12” long and hooked another one that was a lot bigger. But that is why it is fishing not catching. I did manage a Trophy Rainbow Trout that was 20” there.
The Flies that were on Fire for the week are.
#12 Wire Worm
#18 Light Tan Scud
#18 Ruby Midge
#12 BeadHead Brown Woolly Bugger
These not only worked in the Park but in the River as well. Have Fun out there and go Catch some fish.
